Spring / Summer
Most shoppers visit garden centers just once per year in the spring...April, May, June. Perennials that are in bloom during that short period outsell the others many times over. However, the best designed gardens are those that have plants in bloom during every flowering season.
Fall
A bulb is a promise of a plant to come. The word bulb describes plants that grow from an underground mass of food storage tissue. True bulbs, like tulips and daffodils, contain a complete miniature plant surrounded by fleshy scales attached to a basal plate from which plants grow. The scales are mostly carbohydrates and nourish the young plant.
